Café Bendl

Travelers, BEWARE! This establishment is not safe. My friend and I were engaged in a conversation when a group of men nearby began throwing coffee beans and coasters at us, which hit us several times. We requested that they stop, but were ignored. The staff did not intervene, and we observed them engaging in similar behavior toward another group. We later learned that this is a known establishment for people with extreme political views. Other reviews have noted a pattern of harassment, particularly towards certain groups of people. I am deeply concerned that this type of behavior is taking place in central Vienna. This blatant and rude conduct, which borders on abusive, is completely unacceptable. We were outnumbered and felt that a confrontation would have been unsafe, so we chose not to escalate the situation. I sincerely hope that this type of behavior is challenged and that people with such an outdated mentality learn their lesson.

What went down at that place on Saturday was seriously disgraceful. A big group of rowdy people were being super rude to other guests, spouting outdated, backwards nonsense and even hinting at extrem right salutes. The staff or owners didn’t seem to care at all. Either they were totally overwhelmed or just cut from the same cloth. From what I’ve read, it doesn’t seem to have been a one-off either. There are so many amazing spots in Vienna, this is definitely not one of them!

An old viennese classic. smoke, beer and a jukebox. something before or after a night out. During the week or on weekends. The new owners are not as cool and attentive as the old ones but that's how it is.

At first sight, the place was like traveling through past, with its vintage stuff everywhere. The treatment of the waitress was good, and the things that we ordered were super, specially the rum shot with sugar and coffee grains. Totally recommended! Also, I have to advise that, in the first moments, we were a bit uncomfortable, because people throws the beer mats to everyone. Our Austrian friend told us that it was almost like a tradition, so we followed people, and, at the end, we had so much fan!

One of my most favorite cafes ever. Smoking allowed. Food and drinks are great. Relaxing ambiance with the vintage & retro atmosphere. ❤
