Local spot offering daily specials, coffee & strudel in a relaxed atmosphere with booth seating....
We visited Café Eiles on December 7, 2025, shortly after arriving in Vienna. We were looking for a place to rest after the journey and have a quick bite. Most restaurants nearby were fully packed, and this café looked slightly less crowded, so we decided to give it a try. Even so, we ended up waiting around 5-7 minutes until some guests left and a table became available. Unfortunately, the table we were offered was dirty and sticky. No one came to clean it, so I ended up doing it myself using wet and dry tissues (not exactly the kind of welcome one hopes for after a long trip). We weren’t given menus either, and catching a server in this busy café proved difficult. In the end, we had to take the menus ourselves from a stand behind our table. After sitting for almost 10 minutes, a server finally approached. Since the atmosphere already felt rather unwelcoming, we decided not to stay long and ordered just liver dumpling soup (€5.90), goulash soup (€5.90), pumpkin soup (€4.90), and hot chocolate (€5.50). While waiting, I visited the restroom. It was dirty and had an unpleasant odor, which didn’t improve the overall impression. When the soups arrived, we were unpleasantly surprised by the portion sizes. The soup plates were extremely small; in fact, the hot chocolate was served in a larger cup than the soups. Comparing the size of the bread roll to the soup plate says it all. The liver dumpling soup contained exactly one dumpling, and while the goulash soup at least had some meat, overall the value for money was very poor. The food tasted acceptable, but nothing more. After finishing, we managed to catch a server and asked for the bill. It took at least 15 minutes to arrive. Given the overall experience, we didn’t plan to leave a tip. However, when the bill finally came, we noticed that a 10% tip had already been added without any prior notice (€23.10 + €2.31 Trinkgeld). I find this completely unacceptable. Tipping should be a guest’s choice, especially when the service and cleanliness fall far below expectations. Overall, this visit was disappointing: dirty tables, poor restroom hygiene, very small portions for the price, slow service, and an automatically added tip made for an experience we would not repeat. Vienna has countless wonderful cafés. Unfortunately, this wasn’t one of them.
Perfect place to go! They serve from 8 till midnight. They habe extensive menu, so much to choose from. I enjoyed my appetizer which is the traditional viennesse souppot, perfect for the cold weather. Loved everything we ordered except for my daughters sliced dumpling which she said is weird to taste, but other than that it was an amazing experience. Staff are very attentive and really nice.
I had wienese goulash - meat was too hard, dry, sauce ok. Dessert - Cardinal - too poor - no jam inside, no fruits, no whipped cream. Glasses for drinks very scratched, old. Service is very good. But food nothing extra, just very average.
We were staying very close by and found the café both very convenient, friendly and good service. Open hours very customer friendly. We had an early dinner on two occasions. I ordered a very tasty pork schnitzel and the second time the spinach- ricotta tortellini also very good. The atmosphere is very charming and cosy.
Came here after we walked by and liked the vibe inside. We really enjoyed the atmosphere of the cafe and thought was reasonably priced. They seemed to be a little understaffed, as wait times for ordering and paying were a bit more than normal, but not egregious. I got the sausages with mustard and horseradish and my wife got the Caesar salad, but we’re solid “meh” but the atmosphere was good enough for us to overlook the meal.
