The El Claustro Café, located in the Franz Mayer Museum, is an oasis in the heart of Mexico City's Historic Center. This tranquil and luminous space is situated in the central courtyard of a 16th-century building, formerly the Hospital de los Desamparados (Hospital of the Abandoned). The café offers a variety of options, including salads, pasta, baguettes, and, of course, a delicious semi-sweet chocolate cake. The ambiance is ideal for relaxing after exploring the museum's exhibits, surrounded by greenery and natural light. - Open Tuesday to Sunday, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. - Accessible for people with disabilities - Accepts cash and cards - No pets allowed Avenida Hidalgo 45, Historic Center, Mexico City, near the Hidalgo and Bellas Artes metro stations
We were going to see an exhibition at the museum and stumbled upon this place inside where they serve delicious coffee and pastries. You can enjoy a lovely view of the garden. I would have loved to try the salads and pasta they were preparing, but we didn't have time! We'll be back.
The three-cheese baguette and the molletes are super delicious, I highly recommend it. However, their toppings bar needs to be constantly refilled with pico de gallo because I had the misfortune of not having enough for my molletes (although it was very tasty) :c As for the drinks: The cappuccino is good, and the lemonade comes plain, served in a plastic cup, a bit skimpy but tasty. The staff is attentive and friendly. It's truly a cafe that will get you out of a jam if you haven't had breakfast or want to spend a little time enjoying something. It smells delicious. The service from the staff only consists of charging you and serving your food; there are no waiters. The prices seem reasonable for what they serve.
I love this place. I recently invited a teacher friend of mine, and she was blown away. The food is always delicious, and the green juice is a delight for the palate. The desserts are also delicious, and the palate exudes ambrosia if you know how to choose them. 😋 I also like the atmosphere, and you can marvel at the panoramic view of the fountain ⛲ 😀 . I will definitely return many more times. 👌
The pastries are terrible, the service slow, and the coffee mediocre. But the location is spectacular and unbeatable. Find it under the cloisters inside the Museum, with a bubbling fountain, trees and birds, quiet and solemn place. The perfect secret spot to escape from the city center's noise, pollution and crowds.
