Down-home restaurant with sidewalk seating offering tapas, seafood, sandwiches & churros, plus wine....
We wanted to eat something before getting on a train and decided on this place due to its proximity to Atocha station. We asked for lamb chops, the waiter suggested baked lamb, we agreed. It came with a tiny amount of rice. The lamb looked nice but it was so salty I could hardly eat it. Unfortunately we didn’t have time argue and ask for something else. The water asked how the food was and I told him about the salt. He didn’t seem to care at all. The bill came for over 70€ for 2 over seasoned lambs, water and coffee. I wouldn’t recommend this place for anyone
Situated opposite Madrid’s Atocha train station, they are opened for breakfast, friendly senior gentlemen manning the store. If you want a taste of what the busy locals have for breakfast, hop on in. Use Google Translate app if you need to, always handy. Friendly cosy small setting environment. Happy indeed to have our morning coffee-churros-croissant combination.
DON’T GO HERE IF YOU’RE A TOURIST! We walked in when there were only two other tables and they both had almost empty beers. A larger table walked in after us and they were immediately served. The lady working let us order water and then proceeded to ignore us for 20 minutes even though we made eye contact and waved at her. She served everyone else. We had to go to the front to pay for our waters and there was no remorse or response from her. We walked to another restaurant down the street that was nicer.
Walked into this restaurant after a long day travelling before we went to the Prado. We chose to eat inside where a lot of locals were eating too but got a table easily enough. We got handed a menu in English- the waiters do not speak English but easy enough to order if you know a few Spanish words. They do bring a bread basket (which is charged for!!) so you can politely refuse it and they take it away without any issue. The two El Aquila draft beers were wonderfully cool and the coffee was great too- you need to stop them pouring too much milk if that is your preference. For 4 of us we ordered a basic menu of ham croquettes ( nice and crisp), batatas bravas (bravas sauce varies from place to place- so this was different but nice), calamari and the Spanish omelette ( much bigger than we thought and creamy). The food was standard and nothing to complain about. The omelette while tasty was crying out for some pepper or spice but that was our preference. Service was quick and efficient. Decent enough place but pretty standard fare.
I was heading to Prado museum and came across this local place, lots of seating inside and out. I sat outside and ordered simple breakfast, very relaxed, l was served quickly. It says it caters for vegans. Walking distance from various museums, great public transport.
