We tried the famous apple pie that everyone praises, but we didnβt like it at all. The coffees were very bitter and the cups were really small. You only go there for the name, not for the dessert.
Great service and atmosphere. Lots of art on the walls. Had a quick lunch of croquettes, calamari, and patatas bravas.
It's not just how confortable it is, it is how wonderful the Service is. Stayed after visiting the museums area, in the original old indoors restaurant in the Street side, not in the terrace. The waiters Pedro, Julian (and all others) were all fauboulus, gentile, nice and gracious eventhough our ticket was smalll. They were very nice with everybody. Just great. And the food was perfect. Highly recommended.
May 2023 Our group had a wonderful custom meal here. Appetizers, main meal, flamed baked alaska, and all you could drink alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. Local specialties, and wine. The entire menu had been pre-arranged. We had a private room in the basement. This restaurant is rich in history, and there are pictures everywhere on the walls. Super interesting. Our three servers had a mission to serve 47 of us quickly, and that they did. The drinks were cold, and the food was hot. No fooling around with these men. No joking around, no smiling, just great food and service. They were amazing. I had never had such unfriendly servers, yet awesome service. They worked so hard, and we all appreciated that. I would definitely go back on my own.
Before you eat here, read about its rich history. Once you know the context, the experience will mean so much more. First of all, eat in the original building rather than the new one across the street to absorb the history. Food choice is huge with many traditional dishes among the tapas. It is a popular place for a late lunch with local business people. Sit back sample good food and imagine who may have sat in your table in the past, sharing the timeless view. Remember the past patrons like Orson Welles, Ava Gardner, Joseph Cotton, and Trueman Capote. Serving since 1888, you should stop by and jeep that tradition going.
