I wonder why the review is not great. I've been coming to this cafe every year during MWC for the last 4 years. Best coffee, friendly staff, and great vibe.
While strolling through Barcelona, we stopped at Il Caffè del Francesco to take a short break between shopping sessions. We had a cappuccino and a double espresso – both good and well-made, nothing extraordinary, but exactly what you need for a quick coffee stop. We also tried some muffins and a palmier pastry, which paired nicely with the coffee. The atmosphere is that of a typical boulevard café – nothing particularly special, but pleasant and perfectly suitable for a short pause during a city walk. Although we were served at the table, the order itself had to be placed at the counter, which wasn’t an issue for us. Prices are on the higher side, but considering the central boulevard location, it’s understandable. Overall, a good spot for a quick break while exploring the city.
If you like to drink coffee from the toilet, you are here at a good place (my option).
I’m extremely disappointed and honestly quite angry about my experience at this café. I walked in, pointed to the sandwich I wanted, clearly marked at €2.70 ( please check pictures as proof), and when I went to pay, they suddenly charged me €4. When I asked why, they casually told me it was because I ate inside. At NO point did anyone mention that eating in would cost more. No signs, no warning, nothing. This is absolutely unacceptable and feels deliberately misleading. Customers shouldn’t have to double-check prices after the fact or feel tricked at the till. This lack of transparency is unprofessional and disrespectful! I will not be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone who expects honest pricing!
I'm giving this a 2 star as I don't like feeling like I've been ripped off. Prices displayed at the counter are NOT what you are charged at the table inside. A 3.85 eur small cereal bun with ham cheese had a supplement added of 1.35 eur at the table. I was also charged 3.30 eur for a second cup of cafe con leche when the first cup was 2.80 eur - so check your bill before you pay!! I was not impressed
