Famous historic venue with 8 separate dining halls dishing out traditional local dishes & beer....
Restaurant U Fleků was excellent in my opinion. The atmosphere is truly authentic and beautiful you can really feel the spirit of old Prague there. The food was delicious and very satisfying, but the highlight for me was their dark beer. I’ve honestly never tasted anything like it anywhere else absolutely amazing! Prices were also very reasonable considering the quality and the experience. Overall, I highly recommend this place, especially to travelers who want to truly experience traditional Prague atmosphere, food, and beer all in one spot.
We tried classic czech goulash which was very good and roasted chicken which was ok. They will try to sell you shots you never asked for which are not free. The ordering was also a bit weird, no one came to serve us, we had to ask the waiters passing by to take our order. At the end, they will add 10% service fee by themselves without asking you. Overall, this place gives a tourist trap vibes despite having good food.
The atmosphere was indeed authentic. The chicken was well seasoned and delicious, and the cabbage had a really nice flavor – unfortunately, that’s about all I can say that’s positive about this place. I felt half scammed because I was talked into trying a “traditional” shot, and only after I drank it was I told I had to pay for it. It was quite an expensive shot, and while it didn’t taste bad, the way they “sold” it to me completely ruined my vibe. Overall, the food was pretty meh; the only things I genuinely enjoyed were the half chicken and the cabbage. When we went to pay by card, I was suddenly told: “I will add a 10% tip, if that’s ok.” NO, that is not ok. I refused to pay the tip because I didn’t have a great experience and, in such cases, I don’t think a tip is deserved. I hate being made to feel obligated to tip when the service doesn’t really earn it. My recommendation: if you like beer, stop by for a drink, enjoy the medieval atmosphere, and have your meal somewhere else.
Busy Czech traditional restaurant in a heart of Prague. Meals are traditional and well-made, atmosphere is perfect; inviting you to breathe a bit of an old times by the design and a musician playing on accordeon. Reservation is highly recommended. Just watch out! Waiters are kind sellers and the shots they are giving you are not for free ;))
U Fleků is one of the oldest breweries in Prague, with a documented history going back to 1499. The beer here is certainly good, they brew a dark and a light lager on the premises, and either one is worth trying. But the visit left me with mixed feelings. The place is huge and steeped in history, which is cool for a beer-lover or someone just soaking up the atmosphere. That said, the service is really disappointing. The staff act friendly, going around offering beer and snacks at the table, but every “free” pass-by ends up on your bill without you being clearly told upfront. The food is solidly Czech: the potato soup was just okay, the duck and sausages were fine but nothing special, especially for the price. So if you go, go for the beer and the setting, but don’t expect top-tier food or service. If this review was helpful, leave a 💛
