Umami – Matcha Café

Was looking for a good quality matcha experience (which has been a bit tough to find in Paris) so made quite the trek to Umami this morning. The service was just okay - I prefer to actually watch/experience the matcha whisking process so felt sitting and ordering was a bit strange to be honest. The latte art was so cute tho! 🐱 They wouldn’t let us eat our vegan pastries we brought in - so be aware that they don’t allow outside food. The server told us inaccurate info at first: confusing gluten free items for being “vegan”. We did confirm they have chia pudding that’s vegan and … a fruit cup. 🥁

Best matcha ever I’ve had (including the ones in Japan 🤓), broke my prejudices, and got my second one right away. Ambiance is great but I find it a bit too noisy 🙈 I’ll definitely come back, though !

My fav matcha in town 💚💚 They sell their own matcha but it’s also great place to stop for one and it’s gorgeous spot for lunch. Staff are always super friendly with some really cool in store products.

We tried the matcha latte frappé. I asked for mine without sugar. The portion was generous for the price, which I appreciated. However, the quality of the matcha itself could be better. Since they have their own matcha brand, I was honestly surprised and a bit disappointed, by the taste. The café also has a dedicated section selling matcha-related products and other Asian items, which is a nice touch. I appreciated that they offer soy milk as an option. The terrace was lovely too, especially with today’s great weather.

Calm but lively café with a modern Japanese feel. Great spot to grab a matcha, hojicha latte, or a light lunch. The drinks are smooth and well-balanced, not too sweet. Loved the small marketplace inside with unique Japanese products. Plenty of seating both indoors and outside. Ideal for catching up with a friend or taking a break in the 3rd arrondissement.
