Great place for visiting chess players. Friendly host (Olga)sorted out some players for me, with my poor French skills. Good drinks (Beer, hot chocolate, wine of course, snacks), good atmosphere - ok to chat a bit. A place your non-playing partner can relax in too. Not stuffy, background music, ok to chat over chess (or just concentrate). Looking forward for a chance to return.

Not recommended. The place looks nice, but it was very crowded and way too noisy. We ordered a sandwich that took 25 minutes to arrive, and drinks that were never served. We ended up staying at least 45 minutes, and were charged 5€ per person just to sit and play. The barman took his time ignored us as well during the order, and the waiter was not welcoming at all. Overall, disappointing experience.

Great place, very friendly staff, the “boss” makes sure your accommodated for! I’m a very low Elo and had a warm welcome. Great food and fair prices.

Wonderful spot for chess. I stopped in for one of their tournaments and had a great time despite my limited French. Staff were friendly and the chess was set up well. 5/5 would come back.

One of the best places in Paris especially if you love playing chess! The ambience is so beautiful, interior is classy, there are chess related pictures on the wall and the service is very nice. Sometimes they even have tournaments and jazz concerts. It is truly a delightful bar/cafe. Everyone’s minding their own business and playing chess. Chess play fee is 5€ and prices are similar to normal bars. I especially recommend the IPA beer + they offer some chips which is cute. Crumble and coffee were also good :)
