This place is in a high tourist zone so I had low expectations. But somehow they went lower haha! I know these places must get so many rude tourists so we were trying to be extra polite because we were a large group and the server seemed harried. Didn’t mind the slow service or even the bad food. We were enjoying the beautiful sunny day. But when the server said “just kill me now” I really wondered if maybe he should have chosen a different profession. Maybe the service industry is just not for you.
The principle of this establishment only accepting cash is off-putting, especially as if you haven’t got cash you have to go to a nearby cash point. Convenient for the establishment but not for the customer. Normally we do prefer to pay cash to avoid transaction fees for businesses but on this occasion we hadn’t. It’s a shame they insist on this.
The reviews speak for themselves. However, my family and I hadn’t really planned to come here. We just arrived around 7 pm and saw they had availability. First; they said they closed at 8. Then, they said in Spanish, after they heard us speak, that they had no food and then that they would only serve alcohol (even though the menu includes an assortment of coffee and other beverages). We just wanted a coffee and a crepe after a big meal in the neighborhood. The point is not that: it’s the rudeness of the 2 waiters that made us feel unwelcome. If this place does not welcome tourists, or if they just want people to consume alcohol after a certain time, it’s of course their prerogative. They should just put a sign to say that or say it in advance, and save us a bad time. It was certainly a change, after an amazing day of wonderful Parisian hospitality in other restaurants and areas!
Sitting there people watching, cooling off listening to a gentleman playing violin as people walk towards the wall of love. We sipped on Aperols. Eventually another strolling musician came but and started playing. I got the hot dog… it was so so good. My wife thought I was crazy until she tried it. I ended up ordering her one! Only thing that caught me off guard was cash only. I didn’t have enough and tried 2 different ATMs. They were kind enough to walk over to a neighboring restaurant and do a credit card transaction for me and get cash from the drawer. My waiter was super kind and attentive easily making eye contact if I needed anything.
The food was wonderful, I went here with my family, we got savory crepes and a croque madame. The food was ready very quickly, our server was very kind, and the town is beautiful, we listened to the sound of an orchestra in the background.
