TLDR: Only accepts cash, despite credit card machine. Absolutely appalling experience. We were a group of 20 and walked in without a reservation. They seated us upstairs without issue, so there was clearly no problem accommodating us. We ordered a substantial amount of food and drinks, yet the service throughout was indifferent at best — inattentive, slow, and completely lacking any sense of hospitality. The real issue came at the end. After serving us the entire evening, they suddenly informed us that they only accept cash. No prior warning. No signage. No mention when seating us. Nothing. This despite the fact that there was a credit card machine visible downstairs. It felt deliberately deceptive. We were forced to scramble and pool together every euro we had — including emergency cash — just to settle the bill. In 2026, in central Madrid, claiming to be “cash only” after the fact is unacceptable and frankly suspicious. No serious restaurant operates this way without clearly informing customers upfront. After leaving, we checked the reviews and everything clicked. A long pattern of similar complaints. Clearly the steady tourist traffic from their central location keeps them afloat despite consistently poor practices. Do yourself a favor and avoid this place. There are countless excellent restaurants in Madrid — this is not one of them.
We almost didn’t come because of the low ratings — and that would have been a huge mistake. Restaurante Prado in the heart of Madrid turned out to be such a beautiful surprise. It’s simple, traditional, and old-style — nothing trendy or modern — but that’s exactly its charm. The classic décor, the relaxed atmosphere, the no-rush feeling… it makes you feel completely at home. The service was truly excellent. Warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed like family. And the food… the fabada was absolutely delicious. Rich, flavorful, perfectly cooked, and clearly homemade. The kind of comforting Spanish dish that makes you close your eyes and just enjoy every bite. The family environment, the simplicity, the authenticity — everything made us feel relaxed and happy. Sometimes ratings don’t tell the full story. For us, Restaurante Prado is a hidden gem in Madrid. ❤️
I ran in due to rain and didn't look at the reviews!!!Terrible service. Young waiter with an attitude like he hates his job! My guess is that he is overworked and under paid. Food is decent but very expensive.
Basic but pricey. I’d rather any restaurant near puerto del sil which is where you will normally will go and price is half like La Espanolita! We spent over 120 for 4 people.
In my opinion one of the best cafe/restaurant for rations and half rations in Madrid, Miguel is an authentic Madrileno, funny, friendly (if he likes you...lol) the food excellent the atmosphere legit and authentic. Our second time here in two years. If you want to experience the old and real Madrid, this is it!
