Whimsical reading room/restaurant featuring book-inspired tasting menus & seasonal Hungarian dishes....
So the reviews are absolutely true, found this restaurant on Google maps. Really warm welcome, staff so friendly and welcoming and I dont speak a word of Hungarian. Food was thoughtfully presented and super tasty. I had the steak. Waiter picked a beautiful wine that wasnt even on the list but was part of a selection his supplier had given them. Really made an effort to match a beautiful Hungarian wine with my food..and nailed it. Service and food..unfussy and top notch. Just go!
The experience is fantastic particularly the menu was inspired by the books. The creative is impressive and the display. Unfortunately the food itself was not as amazing as the creative. Overall, it’s a good restaurant.
A truly magical experience! The Harry Potter–themed menu was very well done, with surprising and unexpected twists and fun show elements presented right on the plate. The food itself was delicious, not just gimmicky. My kids absolutely loved it, and it’s clearly not only for adults — families will have a great time here. A creative concept combined with good food makes this place really special. We’ll definitely remember this visit!
This is gonna be a long one. Review is about three months late but never forgot the excellent service. Unlike North America, Europe seems to be severely lacking in themed restaurants so I was delighted to find this place. I had to call multiple times to reschedule my reservation because I got lost in the city. I even had to leave just as dessert was served due to the earlier delay and it was packed up (was gifted an actual fork) . The staff were very gracious. Above and beyond. Food tasted great. My only complaint was one of the courses “Bombay” was vegetarian and there was just a lot going on flavour-wise. Seafood added with about two ingredients removed would have made it perfect. I think people who are vegetarian will request a meal like that. Also the book for the bill is a bit of a cluttered concept. Maybe print the cover instead of bringing the whole book. Regardless it was a fantastic experience. They really immerse you in the process and try to make the courses a lot of fun. And it is not just a shiny aesthetic, the food is really very good. Loved the whimsical take on the English breakfast. And the duck breast was very tender and properly seasoned. Would have loved a whimsical drink choice as well and not just wine. They did a great job. Concept well-executed. Definitely deserves five stars.
We had a wonderful dining experience at KönyvBar in Budapest. The steak was absolutely delicious — perfectly cooked, tender, and full of flavor. The goulash was also excellent, rich in taste and beautifully presented. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was attentive and professional. I highly recommend KönyvBar for anyone looking to enjoy high-quality Hungarian and international dishes in a refined yet cozy setting.
