Original shop is closed and moved to be a small booth within food court. Food available only 5-6 dishes (with or without egg). Pork cutlets were pre-fried and microwaved at the station. Pickled was given in a very small plastic bowl.
Really nice restaurant and the curry is excellent. The down point today is the staff absolutely not friendly, cold people working more like robots. On top of the curry porc I’ve ordered a starter and the lemon water which I never got! Go there for the food but not for the service for sure.
Please see my review history for my credentials in reviewing Coco Ichibanya. This Thai branch is indistinguishable in quality to the Japanese counterpart. The maximum spice level is Level 5, which is about a Level 4 by Japanese standards. The curry sauce is representative of the Japanese version. The mushrooms are different which is to be expected but provide the same flavour quality. Kirin Ichiban is not available here, but instead Asahi and Heineken. The Asahi beer is brewed in Thailand but is also indistinguishable from Japanese-brewed Asahi, as is expected from the quality of most South East Asian beers. I highly recommend this one to get the true Japanese Coco Ichibanya experience.
It’s a pretty standard Coco experience if you’ve ever been to one before. It’s one of the best Japanese curry places in California by far. This particular one was fine and had salmon which ours don’t but it came out almost immediately and the curry was more warm than hot/fresh. Overall worth it and much cheaper here than in the US. I’d say it’s worth it if you’ve never been and if you have then it's a safe bet for some good quick curry.
I love Japanese curry and always seek out a local Coco Ichibanya if one is nearby. They always do a great job and food is consistently very good! I had to get my favorite Tonkatsu (fried pork cutlet) with wonderfully flavored curry & rice. It is always very satisfying! Yummm!
