RACIST SECURITY. I am a solo black female. The old guy would not let me in and told me it was due to them closing. However, the place was full with music going. This was on Wednesday at 1:00 AM and it says that they don’t close until 3:00 AM. He lied. Stay away!!
My friend and I were there on a Friday night, the atmosphere was lively and fun, which made it even more enjoyable since it was our first time in Amsterdam. It felt like a very authentic Dutch experience.
As a foreigner, this place does obviously not have me as their target demographic. And that is totally fine. As many people seem to comment that the bouncer would say "Dutch only" it is clear he is talking about the music. This place does not cater their activities to tourists, and that is fine. We had a great time listening and trying to enjoy the vibe of the bar. It seemed as the those who could understand the lyrics had a great evening, and as a consequence so did me and my friend. One thing which seems to confuse me is that there was a 50 cent charge (Cash only) for using the restroom. This is for me pretty alienating when we are already paying in the bar for beer. Still this would not have been a problem if the lady "running the second floor" had simply informed me that I could pay for 50 cent down in the bar. I had not brought any cash for the evening, as every other place I had visited this trip seemed to discourage cash in Amsterdam. If anything, holding back this information instead of simply informing me felt much more hostile than any of the comments regarding the bouncer (which was strict about the Dutch song policy, but not in any way hostile).
Came here with a German friend, we were talking english only and we asked the guy at the entrance to go in. He told us that only Dutch language is spoken inside, I thought that was a bad joke, he said “this is not a joke”. So we went to another place where we were welcomed. Unbelievable experience in Amsterdam in almost 2024!!!! Update: Replying to your answer in my review, I deny what you say about the bouncer saying “only Dutch music inside” you’re a lier and racist. The bouncer said clearly “only Dutch language is spoken inside” and he did not allow us to go in cause we were talking English. I told him “this is a joke” cause I thought it was and I laughed. He said “this is not a joke” . My friend and I, as foreigners visiting your country and city would not mind to listen Dutch music because that’s why we are in this country for. But this place and the bouncer only wants local people talking Dutch. Reading the other reviews about this place is easy to conclude the way this place treats people and foreigners and the person who replies all the reviews always has an answer to every review and always evade these kind of behaviours. Do not come here people, there are a lot of better places around where you will be welcomed.
A tiny little bar which could fit 50 in at a push. I went on a Monday night and there was singing and dancing as if it we the weekend. The singer sung a mix of Dutch and English songs and the vibe was welcoming of tourists but not made for tourists - well worth a visit.
