My husband and I live in the Netherlands and travel extensively throughout Europe. We were in Italy for the first time and were pleasantly surprised by the service of Mama Shelter, the helpful staff, and the cleanliness of the rooms. We also celebrated our wedding anniversary, and they brought heart-shaped cakes to our room—a lovely touch, along with a card from the hotel. It's also great that the hotel has a pool and saunas; you can book them for free and relax after long excursions. We didn't have book a breakfast, but we had breakfast every day. Firstly, it's delicious and you can choose what you want from the menu. Secondly, the coffee is incredibly tasty, and the price is excellent. Another big plus is the hotel's 2-minute walk to the Metrostation, and all the sights are within a 10-minute metro radius. It's a quiet, central area with supermarkets and cafes nearby—everything is nearby. I would recommend this hotel to everyone, and a special thank you to the polite and friendly staff. I give it 20 out of 10!
Mama Shelter Roma is a quirky hotel with playful interiors and with a killer location. Just 5 minutes’ walk from Cipro metro station which can take you to anywhere in Rome within 30 minutes. Very near to Vatican City: 10 minutes’ walk to Vatican Museum, and maybe 20 minutes to St Peters. And if you have heard of Pizza by Bonci, that's just 5 minutes’ walk from this hotel. The rooms were of decent size, a bit difficult to manage with luggage. And a ridiculously large sized 55" TV was hanging in the corner occupying a lot of space. You can kick it at night while turning around if you are not careful. Coming to the cons, Mama Shelter is stingy in providing any type of complimentary service. There were no disposable slippers in the room, and front desk informed the only option they have must be purchased at €8 a pair. As part of our Accor Plus welcome drink, they provided just one bottle of fruit juice. Even the economy hotels like Ibis offer one drink for each guest. And they were also the only hotel during our Italy trip, that didn't provide a room upgrade. Which is of course subject to availability, but combined with other observations, seemed more out of reluctance. Many of these could be how the brand operates, but it stood out from the hospitality we usually associate with Accor. All in all, a decent place to spend few nights in Rome. We will probably return just for the location.
We are currently staying here and having a fabulous time but I actually wanted to leave a review for the restaurant as it’s so good, I think it warrants its own review. Our waiter Antonio was fantastic - he was easy to speak to, helpful, informative and very friendly (especially with our autistic son.) The restaurant is very quirky and fun, with a great atmosphere - there were live singers and a dj which added to the fun ambience. We wished we hadn’t had such a long day travelling as we’d have liked to have stayed up and enjoyed the evening for longer. The food was delicious, portions were generous and there’s a wide selection to choose from. The children’s burger portion was huge and our son told us it was delicious. We started with bread for the table and a Greek salad - very filling, super fresh and very enjoyable. I had the spaghetti with anchovies, lemon and breadcrumb crumble which was unlike anything I’ve had before and utterly memorable. My husband enjoy the ravioli stuffed ravioli which was decadent and beautifully cooked. I enjoyed ice cream for pudding (pistachio - gorgeous) and my husband wolfed down the pear despite having declared himself full so I think that speaks to the delectableness of it! We’ll definitely be returning during our stay here and highly recommend it
We had a very pleasant stay at Mama Shelter Rome. The hotel is modern, stylish and comfortable. The room was spotless, and the beds were comfortable. A special mention goes to Rafaela, who made us feel at home with her kindness and very good service. The rest of the staff was also very friendly and attentive. The hotel is well connected to the city center, making it easy to get around. Vatican museums can be reached by feet in a few minutes. We also tried the pizza at the hotel’s restaurant, and it was very delicious — definitely worth ordering. Overall, we would highly recommend Mama Shelter Rome.
Last year we stayed at Mama Shelter Lisbon and had the best experience, so when we planned our trip to Rome, choosing Mama Shelter Rome was a no-brainer. The hotel and rooms are beautiful, and the food is just as amazing as in Lisbon. However, the service at the breakfast and restaurant area needs a lot of improvement. I stayed for 10 nights, and every day felt like it was the staff’s first day. There were wrong orders everywhere, I had to follow up multiple times just to get a coffee, and I saw several frustrated guests sending their à la carte orders back. When you ask for something, staff often pass you from one person to another with no resolution. Only one or two people seemed to know what they were doing, everyone else looked completely lost. They are friendly, but they urgently need proper training in hospitality and procedures. Because of that, even though the food was delicious, I chose not to have breakfast or dinner there every day to avoid the chaos. There’s also no room service, and only two bottles of water in the minibar, which were never restocked during my 10-day stay. That’s fine, but for a 4-star hotel, it would be great to at least have a kettle and glasses available to make tea or refill water. Overall, I have mixed feelings, I still love the Mama Shelter concept and would stay at another one again, but not in Rome until the service improves.
