I have been using Ostrom for the last two years, and my experience has been nothing short of excellent. One of the standout features is their paperless billing system, which not only makes managing my account a breeze but is also environmentally friendly. The customer support team deserves a special mention—they are responsive, helpful, and always ready to assist with any queries. I've never faced any issues they couldn't resolve promptly. I am extremely satisfied with Ostrom as my electricity provider here in Cologne, Germany. Their services and app are top-notch and always accessible. Avoid Ostrom at all costs - dysfunctional billing, nonexistent customer service, and aggressive handling. I signed up with Ostrom about a year ago as my electricity provider and set up a SEPA direct debit so payments would be taken automatically every month. Everything was supposed to be simple and “digital first.” It turned into a nightmare. In October, for reasons Ostrom never clearly explained, the SEPA payment did not go through, despite there being sufficient funds in my bank account. I was not notified properly at the time. No clear email, no explanation, no breakdown. Just silence. Two months later, Ostrom suddenly contacted me demanding money, without clearly explaining what exactly I supposedly owed, for which period, or why the automatic payment had failed in the first place. When I asked for a detailed explanation, something any normal utility provider should be able to give, I got vague responses at best and mostly nothing at all. Customer service is practically nonexistent. Responses take weeks, sometimes over a month, and when they finally come, they feel automated, dismissive, and completely disconnected from what you actually asked. You don’t speak to humans. You get recycled templates and bots that don’t read your messages. After weeks of chasing them for a basic explanation, Ostrom suddenly informed me that they were closing my account and terminating me as a client, again without providing a proper, transparent justification. No attempt to resolve the issue. No accountability for their own failed SEPA system. Just “we’re closing your account.” Only after I escalated and explicitly pushed back did they finally provide some explanation, far too late and only after unnecessary stress, threats, and uncertainty. By then, the damage was done. This company markets itself as modern, transparent, and customer friendly. In reality, it is the opposite. Broken billing processes No real customer support Extremely slow response times Aggressive communication instead of clear explanations Zero accountability when their systems fail Electricity is not a luxury service. It is a basic necessity. Ostrom treats customers as disposable and problems as something to ignore until they can shut you down. If you value transparency, reliability, and being treated like a human being, do not choose Ostrom. There are many electricity providers in Germany. This is one to actively avoid.
I wish there were an option for zero stars, or even a minus. When it was time to pay the annual final settlement bill, I paid it on time, and the company then informed me that I was entitled to a bonus. When I inquired about the payment of the bonus and how it would be credited, I was told that the bonus would be and then had been normally transferred to my bank account. One month after the payment of the final settlement bill, I continued to receive payment reminders claiming that my final bill was unpaid. When I tried to find out what was going on, their chatbot naturally replied that the bill had already been paid. However, it referred me to a member of their team. The response I received was not only disappointing but infuriating. They labeled the bonus as a “system error” and asked me to PAY THE FINAL BILL AGAIN, despite the fact that I have repeatedly sent them proof of payment showing the transfer to their account. Of course, I am still waiting for this issue to be resolved, as there is no proper customer service on their part. I reserve the right to take further legal action. I have also left a review on another platform, which the company deemed invalid without further investigating the matter. However, I have sent all the requested evidence to the responsible parties so that the review can be reinstated. Now I understand the inflated, fabricated high ratings!!!!!
I am leaving this review after a very disappointing experience trying to switch my electricity provider to Ostrom. I signed up on October 19th. The process immediately hit a snag because my meter couldn't be identified. I provided all requested information—photos of the meter, the correct address, and later the MaLo ID from my landlord—promptly and in line with their instructions. Despite their initial promises to resolve issues "smoothly," communication has been almost non-existent. After each of my replies, I received only automated responses citing high volumes. It has now been over three weeks, and my registration is still not complete, with no proactive update or timeline from their team. While their concept and app seem modern, the customer service and operational backend are severely lacking. If you need a reliable provider or a timely switch, I cannot recommend Ostrom based on this experience. The complete lack of follow-up after submitting critical documents is unacceptable for an essential service like electricity.
