1880 coffeehouse for Viennese fare including homemade pastries, with regular live music & a garden....
As a fan of Before Sunrise I've been looking forward to visiting this place for years, decades actually, and it did not disappoint. Spent a couple of hours here during which time I and my wife enjoyed apple strudel, cheese strudel, sachertorte and saltzburger cheesecake, two white wine and sodas, two alcoholic coffees and a litre of house red for €70. An absolutely fabulous place, great atmosphere, great people watching spot, such an eclectic mix customers. Service was first class. A wonderful afternoon, bittersweet as I couldn't help but glance across at the booths where Jesse and Celine sat in 1995 and wonder where the last thirty one years have gone. Recommended.
I visited Café Sperl in Wien specifically to try the famous austrian Sacher. I also tried the apple strudel. I cannot provide a more comprehensive review of this shop but the interior have vintage really good looking vintage decor, most likely truly having survived the passage of time. The sweets I tried were really tasty but unfortunately did not have the time to try in other shops and cannot compare. I anyway recommend anyone to pay a visit to this historycal bar.
We loved the Cafe Sperl. The service was fantastic, friendly and attentive wait staff. The food was delicious and the Cafe has genuine history and atmosphere. Not too many tourists or Tik Tok types. We tried the smoked salmon and potato salad, (the yummiest we had in Vienna) the cheese strudel, great hot chocolate and home made lemonade. The Schnitzel looked really good too. Definitely recommend.
Charming traditional Viennese cafe will plenty of old world charm. Sadly this is where the charm ended. We agree with many of the reviews, the front of house staff, are standoffish, rude, like they don’t care and simply wish they were somewhere else. The asking if you wish to tip On a big positive, the food lived up to the reputation, and we weren’t disappointed. If they can fix the front of house issue, this place would be 5/5.
Absolutely brilliant experience. I came here from a review to enjoy "classic Vienna cafe experience". And I think I got exactly that! The place was nice, with the furniture and layout feeling very authentic. Around us were local people. Having their morning coffee and reading newspaper. The coffee, pastry and egg sausage were all great. Highly recommend the Sperl chocolate cake! We went there at around 9AM, and no wait time needed however around 30' later there was already a waiting line formed. Highly recommend this place!
