Vibrant Asian canteen & coffee shop featuring specialties like chicken rice & pandan cake....
Great casual place for lunch or coffee - Chicken rice was perfectly executed, as were the chill oil dumplings. The Sago dessert was really yummy but the ultra hyped pandan cake was rather dry
Chicken satay and hot tea taste really authentic. But I was really disappointed with nasi lemak. The rice can’t really taste of coconut, and the chicken was just not right. It was supposed to be either drumstick or thigh, but they made it into like chicken nuggets style, and the spice is just not right. And not spicy at all. I understand they have to localise…oh well… other than that, I’m happy with my satay and tea. And the pandan cake is ❤️
Absolutely love The Hood. Having moved to Paris in 2024 from LA, it had been challenging to find good Asian flavors. I had given up on SouthEast Asian flavors completely. And then, I discovered that The Hood made kaya. KAYA, in Paris! Had I slipped into another dimension? And it was glorious. And they put it on a croissant and make a chiffon cake with it. Quoi?! They are heavenly. And you can purchase the kaya as well. The food is incredible. I love the nasi lemak and beef rendang. Reminds me of home, where I regularly enjoy Singaporean and Indonesian food. I eat here quite often and the quality has been consistent. I recommend it to anyone visiting Paris.
I originally came to this place for the Hainanese chicken rice. I found myself also getting the Paratha and curry, and the Teh Tarik (the Singaporean version of a Chai latte). Hainanese chicken rice: The poached chicken was delicate, and the rice was flavorful. Paratha and curry: The paratha was crispy, and the curry meat was tender and deeply flavorful. I loved this more than I had expected. Teh Tarik: This was an unexpected treat. This was my first time having this, and I was impressed with the richness of the tea and milk. As I also adore Cardamom, I was also pleased to find strong notes of this in the tea. I was originally planning on going elsewhere for a latte, but couldn’t help but order this after getting a sample! Prabud was my server, and he was very gracious and attentive. Overall, this place has dishes with rich flavors and fantastic waiters. The vibe is chill, with the food tasting like the elevated version of a grandma’s cooking. I loved the entire experience here. Will absolutely be back again! P.S. They also sell jars of Kaya jam, if you’re interested in it!
We came here on a weekend morning, and it’s such a pleasant surprise! The food is excellent, and the decoration inside is also great. We like the kaya toast with eggs and the curry, and the pandan latte is also pretty good. Highly recommend!
