It's very noisy on the second floor, it's impossible to enjoy a meal. The establishment was created by a Japanese pastry chef who received recognition in France. He wanted to show matcha as a top-class product, comparable in status to elite products, with respect for origin and traditions. The founder was inspired by the regions of Japan where elite green tea is grown, and he was looking for direct supplies to preserve the depth of taste and the characteristic umami note. And he succeeded! We tried matcha ice cream, matcha cake called "Opera" and matcha mochi β all of them are really of the highest quality. An important feature of ice cream and mochi was the balance between sweetness and bitterness. The Opera cake expresses the harmony of the combination of the deep tartness of the East and the outright sweetness and airiness of Western cuisine ... The interior is designed in light, slightly pink tones, with clean lines and a sense of space where attention is focused on the product, not on the decor, and this reflects the Japanese aesthetics of "wabi-sabi" β the beauty of simplicity. The name "Shodai" in Japanese means "the first", "founder", "the beginning of tradition". On the other hand, if my review attracts the attention of the cafe's founders, please note that there are no tea cups in your establishment, although the tea itself is delicious. Tea is sometimes served in normal cups, sometimes in paper cups.
One of the best asian desert spots in Paris. We tried the chocolate brownie and oreo bingsu, the tapioca taro and the sundae with boba pearls. They were all delicious but I would highly recommend the tapioca taro with coconut milk!
Lovely dessert location for matcha enthusiasts ! π I have not tried their savoury dishes so far but I always try to pay the place a visit when I am craving a little dessert after the meal. The matcha desserts are definitely on the sweeter side and you wonβt have as strong of an βherbyβ flavour as you could find in an unsweetened matcha drink as an example, but I still do love it. Almost always get the matcha box which let you try a bit of everything ! They also have other locations in Paris so pay them a visit !
Great Matcha restaurant! If you are out in opera alone or with friends or simply on a date wanting to try everything matcha Then this is a great trendy spot! I had a great time eating there. It was easy to find but when we arrived there was a small line outside. The staff was quite nice and polite. The food was great too. They had a wide variety of assortment desserts and bubble tea related to Matcha. There are two floors. I would suggest to go up. The bottom floor was a bit crowded with people sitting and those standing to pay at the cashier. They do warn people that they need to close the shop a little in advance so be prepared to move quickly out to the cashier to pay. What I loved was the decoration of the foods proposed. If you like a mix of everything take "the Perfect Matcha" Their bubble was great too! They ask you what level of sugar you would like to take before making it and warn you if it might be too sugary for your liking! I personally took the mixte cup of ice cream matcha! I was advised to take the mix since the full matcha cup could be quite powerful to just eat itself.
I was tempted by their menu even though I had just had my iced latte π. I order iced matcha with taro. It was so good and the portion was good. I wanted to go back again to try other things before leaving Paris but I didn't have enough time. Staff were very nice and quick. Prices were good. I loved their decorations too.
