Le Rostand is my favorite restaurant in Paris. The atmosphere is truly authentic, you can feel the history in its walls. It captures the real Parisian spirit, with excellent food and friendly service. Enjoy lunch here before or after a beautiful walk in the Luxembourg Gardens. My family and I came here for many years, and it was wonderful to be back. Such a lovely place with genuine French cuisine.
We love Le Rostand! Our favorite place to get breakfast or a cup of cafe crème, and we've had very pleasant lunches here, as well. I really enjoy the ceremony of the cafe creme and hot chocolate: they bring out espresso or chocolate ganache in your cup, and give you an individual little pitcher of steamed milk that you pour in to your liking. The breakfast "menu" (1/2 tartine (baguette split in half lengthwise with butter and jam); croissant; coffee; and orange juice) is 10 euros, which is quite reasonable for the location. The interior and exterior are both charming: I love the Art Deco tables and benches. And we're always delighted to see the cat - if you're lucky, (s)he comes and sits on the bench next to you. The service has always been excellent: accurate, friendly, professional.
My son ordered the beef medium and it came to us rare. My son tried to eat and it was making him sick. The meat was bleeding when I pressed on it. I traded my lamb with my son and took a piece to try and I can taste the blood. I complained to the waitress who told us there was nothing she can do and we had to pay for food we didn’t eat. The beef was gross, the staff and management are not customer service oriented. Our son and I still feel sick, avoid this place! ***Editing my review to respond to the owner. For one, your server didn’t come back twice to cook it more, you are incorrect. Your server didn’t check on us at all and because we were hungry, I shared my food with my son and we only ate the potatoes and sides that came with the meat. When the server stopped by we did complain about the meat. We told her the we couldn’t eat it and that it was making us sick. She came back once with the meat wrapped tin foil, with the time she took, there is no way it was cooked more. We did not eat more than 1/8 of the meat because it was disgusting. What you see in the picture is what was brought out to us, we didn’t eat 3/4 as you mentioned, we would have ended up in the hospital! I find it concerning that you would come out to attack us vs accepting responsibility and apologizing. It furthers my review about your customer service. I also took a video and will be sharing my experience on other social media platforms.
During our stay in Paris, we visited La Rostand three times. The French cuisine was sensational, and the service was amazing and passionate. Our favorite dishes were the Burgundy snails and the onion soup, but the veal, salmon, and other delicacies were equally delicious. The homemade desserts were a great choice. This place will always remind us of the great French cuisine and excellent wine. We would like to thank all the staff for creating a unique atmosphere in this charming place opposite the Luxembourg Gardens. We will come back to La Rostand next time we are in Paris!
We lunched right across the Luxembourg Gardens and it was gloomy morning but having the whole outdoor cafe experience, people watching and just looking at the views was a bucket list checked off moment! I love that the offered a patio but covered so it’s still non-smoking. The staff also friendly and so patient. Food here was TOP NOTCH. Everything I have photos of were delicious!
