Classic, breezy spot with a terrace serving traditional plates, salads & apéritifs....
Food is ok-ish (but pricey), but the waiter was absolutely horrible. He made fun of me during a normal small talk conversation and laughed in my face about my way of talking. He was very rude. When I told him I was not ok with being laughed at, he just told me that he is like that and will never change. He should not work with customers.
I recently visited Café des Phares after having been there a few times in the past. I had the brunch and was delighted that it hasn’t changed from the past. Still a really great, friendly service in a nice area of Paris just on Place de la Bastille. Good restaurant inside and a wonderful terrace for the nice weather. Affordable price. Much recommended.
Knowing this might be a tourist trap given the location, we stopped here anyway because we were trying to kill a bit of time and, if I’m being honest, we were jet lagged and tired of walking! That being said, our experience was perfectly fine. We sat on the patio add-on, and there were blankets out for each table since it was changing between hot and cold all day. We just did drinks and a snack - the meat & cheese charcuterie board - and both were great. Our server was friendly and took care of us at an appropriate pace, making sure we had drinks when we needed the. The charcuterie board was excellent - it had 3 types of meat, 3 types of cheeses, French butter, bread, and a few garnishments. For 2 glasses of wine, 2 cocktails (St Germaine Spritz), and a charcuterie board, our ticket was only $54. You won’t beat that in this part of time, and that’s not factoring in happy hour prices (which we missed)!
The place is perfect for a Sunday lunch with a warm weather. You can enjoy the terrace and the food and the Parisian vibe. Food is ok and prices are not expensive at all. I’ll come back soon. Thank you!
For us, the service was particularly good! Prompt and friendly waiter was great. My wife and I both had the sea bass for lunch, which was absolutely delicious. Great location for a cafe
