The waiter gave an honest attempt but had an uphill battle with poor, cold and depressing food.
Worst meal I ever had The Pollo enchiladas were cold , the molle sweet and the beans tasted sour. I will never eat there again.
If you spend any considerable time in CDMX you will stumble across a Sanborns Cafe and please do give it a try. Established since many decades serving good Mexican fare at a good price making it definitely worth a stop for lunch or dinner. As long as you don’t eat their Ceviche, unfortunately it had nothing to do with Ceviche and the fish hadn’t seen the ocean for a long long time (it had the old fish water tank flavour to it). The Pozole actually was very tasty and plentiful but unfortunately again served with limp not fresh condiments. Same for the Seafood soup, the flavour was very nice but the shrimps were not clean and hurray, the old fish who lost his left limb for the ceviche made an appearance in the seafood soup too! The mini crab adorning the soup was, let’s say, being around the block for a while is well. So, to summarize, really good flavours but at least for us they dropped the ball with the lack of freshness in their ingredients used.
Love every Sanborns I've been to. Food is reliable and priced fairly. The service is old-school (well so is Sanborns in general) and no nonsense. Good omelets. Most of them also have a farmacia and drug store items as well as nice watches, pens, glasses and candy/nut counters. Helpful staff. Candy counter! So cool. It's like going back in time! Thank you, Carlos Slim! That's a cool name too -- you should play poker too!
I gotta admit, I visit a Sanborns restaurant everytime I visit Mexico City. It is just way better than the ones spread around the country. This time food was still great, but prices have gone way up and service has gone way down.
