Artisan bakery with ornate vintage fittings, for pastries, cakes & desserts to eat in or take away....
As someone who loves pastries and desserts, I made a point to explore what Madrid has to offer during my trip. La Duquesita's got a lot of mentions in all of the recommendations I've come across, and I can definitely see why! First of all, as you can see, the storefront is adorable and inviting! Once you get inside, it was hard not to be overwhelmed by all the beautiful pastries and desserts on display. I had prior knowledge that La Duquesita is known for their Roscon De Reyes, but I really wanted to try their Torrijas. Unfortunately, being a clueless tourist, I wasn't aware that Torrijas is usually available closer to Easter, so they didn't have it available. The gentleman serving me was very helpful with his explanation, then proceeded to give me a lot of great suggestions! I ended up getting a cheesecake for dining in, and he went on a mission finding me a spot to enjoy the treat even though it was a full house. While I was okay with getting it as takeout, I was extremely grateful that he went through the hassle. The cheesecake was absolutely creamy, light and not too sweet. It was so good, I confidently got a Roscon De Reyes for take-out afterwards. While I know I should have it fresh, but when I had it for breakfast the next day, it was still soft and fluffy. I might not be a Madrid local who grew up going to this bakery, nor I might not know the full history of it. However, it has left a great impression thanks to the quality of its treats and the level of hospitality that I wish I had experienced in other establishments.
What a charming little bakery with delicious pastries as well as coffee and very rich drinking chocolate! We were greeted and helped by Arnol who was so friendly and very knowledgeable about everything on offer. He added to small cookies to our order for us to try. I bought some chocolate to take home as everything there was so good!!
La Duquesita is everything a historic Madrid confitería should be—elegant, consistent, and quietly excellent. Founded in 1914, it delivers tradition without feeling dated. We enjoyed a beautifully curated afternoon selection: crisp sparkling water, perfectly prepared café solo and café con leche, and an outstanding lineup of desserts. The postre de queso was balanced and refined, the pistachio dessert rich yet elegant, and the crujiente de avellana was the standout—textural, nuanced, and expertly executed. Service was warm and professional, with attentive pacing that allowed the experience to feel relaxed and intentional rather than rushed. Everything felt precise, from presentation to flavor. La Duquesita continues to set the standard for classic pastry and café culture in Madrid. A must-visit for anyone who appreciates craftsmanship, heritage, and understated excellence. Would absolutely return.
Beautiful place with a sophisticated atmosphere and pleasant vibe. Service was quick and kind, although not as refined as the setting suggests. We ordered two café solo, one bottle of Agua Cristal, one Cuatro Texturas dessert, and one Pistachio dessert. Everything was excellent — both desserts and the coffee were outstanding. The total was €24.60, which I found fair considering the quality and sophistication of the place. Overall, a great experience with nothing to complain about.
Best palmera (elephant ear) I've had. Buttery, flakey, delicious. They have an assortment of pastries and chocolates. Very chic seating area to have coffee or tea. I come here every time I'm in Madrid and the quality is consistent.
