Weekday mornings are the quietest
Sonny has a Parisian sensibility and francophile devotees are eager to occupy their derrières on their formica chairs and partake at the correlative tables. From a succinct menu that conveys innovation, I ordered the pear and hazelnut porridge along with buttermilk pancakes with yuzu curd. In my Dickensian stupor, the manta of “please Sir, may I have some more” normally works to my favour. On this occasion I may of bitten off more than I can chew. The quantity of porridge was overwhelming. The ratio of porridge to garnish I found imbalance, and I wasn’t able to complete the endless vastness. Almond butter, an unnecessary addition to an already burdensome dish only hindered the experience. The mix of warmish porridge and almond butter allowed my mouth to contort haphazardly like Goldielocks in the guise of a Tuvan throat singer as I attempted to dislodge cement like gruel from my palate. If the pears were ripe, they would be a welcome refreshing rest bite to this cumbersome dish. The sentiment is evident, but lacks in its execution.
Ordered the pear and hazelnut porridge with a mild pear and ginger compote which was perfection. Arguably porridge isn’t the most indulgent of foods and it doesn’t have to be, so it was great to have a porridge that wasn’t pretentious, but still full of textures and flavour. Very well portioned too. Have also tried the buttermilk pancakes with yuzu curd which were *chef’s kiss*! The curd and the buttermilk syrup really elevate the pancakes and make them special. Not a huge portion but I think it was the perfect size for a sweet bite. Expect it to be busy during weekends, but service is fast and efficient. You can book a table in advance, which I recommend if you are a planner. Edit: rating it 4 stars because I just realised I paid 36dkk for a glass of tap water, which is criminal
Amazing spot for brunch, lots of different options so we came back twice! Had the simple breakfast and it was amazing highly recommend. Staff were lovely and the food was 10/10
Sonny in Copenhagen is a stylish, modern minimalist spot perfect for breakfast and coffee. The cortado was okay, but the cappuccino was excellent. We enjoyed the simple breakfast and scrambled eggs with salmon, which were sublime, rich in flavour with a wonderful mix of textures. A great place to start the day.
Delicious food and really kind staff! Lots of different dishes for lunch and nice coffee options. The staff is really nice and the service is quick as well. The only very small drawback is that inside is a bit small and it gets quite loud when all tables are occupied. Overall recommended :)
