This place made me slow down after a long time. The atmosphere is incredibly peaceful — the light coming in, the colors, the breakfast I made, the overall vibe. I haven’t paused like this in a long time. I haven’t enjoyed a place this much in a while. ☕️ 🍳 🔆🌀
Unannounced I managed to snag a table amongst a hubbub of sartorial debutantes, some with their suitors, away from the instagramming rabble of Nyhavn. Apollo has claimed a corner of Kunsthal Charlottenborg, adjacent to a courtyard that allows those to partake alfresco, weather permitting. An eclectic mélange of curios, objets d'art are positioned around the room. Flame charred wooden moulding blocks, obsolete tools of a glass blower, if I were to hazard a guess. Distressed equine stone friezes, illuminated by cubist translucent marbled mounts. Striped blanquettes, upholstered from what looks like the ticking of an Oxford boater’s haberdashery. Elongated cylindrical lighting caresses the bar like stalactites, there to guide me to a table, beside a trifecta of oblong mirrors that refracts the light, that pours in from the enormous windows that dominate. Servers jostle across the herringbone floor to deliver curated dainty dishes mainly of a vegetarian disposition, to those whose pockets are deep. To be part of the initiated, you to, have to adhere.
The food is overpriced given its quality. It’s good but not exceptional. I can also concur with many other negative reviews that the service is rather poor. The waiter was inattentive, not friendly, and right after taking the dishes away, we were asked to pay although the place was nearly empty.
Visited in February 2026 for the "big lunch" menu. The food was tasty and interesting, I liked all the dishes, but the sourdough bread (from Andersem bakery) was my favourite. I liked the sourness in most dishes, especially the ponzu dressing from the salmon and the hibiscus dressing of the radicchio. The drinks options were nice and I liked both the grapefruit juice and the cappuccino that I got. Service was good enough and much better than I expected based on some of the other reviews of this place. The girls weren't super attentive or professional, but they were nice and any small mistakes were quickly rectified. Overall, my experience at Apollo bar was surprisingly enjoyable. However, I give the place a 4/5 rating because of the price, 495 kr for the menu felt rather overpriced, in my opinion, especially given that the ingredients used in these dishes typically aren't particularly expensive and they also didn't require too complicated prepping. We had tipster vouchers though, and at that price, the experience was definitely worth it.
I had a lovely breakfast here and it felt like such a refreshing start to the day fresh cheese, boiled eggs, whipped butter, and homemade jam, all served with hearty sourdough bread. Everything was simple, fresh, and so flavorful, exactly what you’d want in a traditional breakfast. The atmosphere was cozy and relaxed, making it the perfect place to slow down and enjoy a real, wholesome meal. If you’re looking for a breakfast spot with authentic flavors and high-quality ingredients, this place is a gem.
