Sapphic Riot was a very pleasant surprise. They have special evenings, great staff and pleasant atmosphere. Do try it!
I support LGBTQ+ spaces wherever I travel, but being a “community space” does not exempt a bar from basic service standards. Politeness and honesty toward customers are non-negotiable. My girlfriend politely asked for her drink not to be too sweet - a very normal and basic request. At first, the bartender pretended not to understand English, and only accepted the request after repeated clarification. Later, we learnt that they mocked and black-mouthed this “extra” request, which was both unprofessional and unnecessary. We also asked to exchange some change, as we needed small bills for another purpose afterward. The bartender told us they had no change at all, which turned out to be untrue—after we insisted, the money was returned. ⚠️ Being lied to directly is unacceptable in any bar, queer or not. Community spaces should be held to higher standards, not lower ones. Came here to support the community; won’t be coming back because of the attitude and dishonesty.
Staffs are rude Cocktails are expensive and poorly made Came here to support the lesbian community, had the worst gay bar experience in Chiang Mai. Cocktails all taste so bad (I’ve tried almost all of it) I think it’s because they’re using only the cheapest spirits and artificial flavouring (I saw them on the shelf), they all taste way too sweet and way too sour at the same time. ————————— updates ————————— Staff would gossip and trash talk about customers to other customers. They been telling a number of people about who is my partner and other personal info. About “rude and demanding customer”, I believe asking my cocktail to be made less sweet is not outrageous, considering all my drinks are way too artificially sweet the previous time I came here. Also the staff lied straight to my face, I paid with smaller bills and as I was waiting for my drink at the counter (just 2 minutes later) I realized I needed some change for later so offered to get my smaller bills back and pay with a 1000 baht bill, the staff lied right to my face saying they don’t have any change. When they finally opened the register, it turned out to be full of change. About “cheap spirits” I never said Thai spirits are less in quality than imported spirits, there are cheap Thai spirits and premium Thai spirits just like there are cheap imported spirits and premium imported spirits, the fact that you assume “cheap spirits” = “Thai spirits” reflects how you value local products.
The interior decor creates a great atmosphere, and the owner is really caring — they even provide food for the dogs. The cocktails are skillfully made. Really enjoyed this place!
Cool gay bar in central Chiang Mai. Great decor and atmosphere - everyone welcome! Some games to play and can also read books.
