Weekday mornings are the quietest
Another classic “Thai-style zen service (lazy indifference)” moment at this place. It was early morning, not busy at all. We just wanted something light with a coffee before yoga; nothing dramatic, just caffeine and calm. To be fair, the coffee was good (Chiang Mai coffee rarely disappoints, but the cinnamon roll was softly rolled up like a tissue after use). But the service? Ice-cold. Not the refreshing kind; more like “did we accidentally walk into a silent retreat?” There were four or five staff members behind the bar, seemingly very focused on their appearance (honestly, it felt like rehearsals for a catwalk fashion show were about to begin) rather than helping each other or serving customers. I asked one of the ladies twice for a glass of water. She acknowledged me, looked at her male colleague, and… nothing. Meanwhile, he had no problem delivering water to the tables around me while skillfully pretending I had mastered invisibility. After being ignored long enough to question my physical existence, I asked him directly for a glass of water. Miraculously, I became visible again; and the water arrived, served with the subtle energy of someone doing me a personal favor. That whole “we are blessing you with our presence but we are giving you a favour” attitude is exhausting. Cheer up, it’s not charity work; it’s literally the job description. We might go back, just to see if the invisibility spell is still active.
I haven’t tried the food yet but I’ve come here several times for drinks and the atmosphere and I love this place. The staff are super friendly and cool and the interior is beautiful minimal, warm brown/beige tones, very Japanese-inspired. Perfect for anyone who appreciates calm, aesthetic cafés. It has indoor and outdoor seatings. It’s a small space but very well located in the middle of Nimman. A great spot to stop by, refresh and just enjoy the vibe.
KLAY Café is such a beautiful hidden gem in Chiang Mai. The moment you step in, you’ll feel the calm, minimalist vibe — warm wood tones, natural textures, soft lighting, and thoughtful interior design that makes the whole space feel cozy yet modern. It’s the kind of café where you just naturally slow down and enjoy your meal. We tried a few dishes and everything was beautifully plated and full of flavour: Smoked Salmon & Eggs Toast The toast was soft and buttery, topped with generous slices of fresh salmon and perfectly runny eggs. The mix of pickles, tomatoes, and passionfruit on the side added a bright, refreshing balance. Loved how satisfying yet light it was. Thai Beef Salad A colourful bowl with tender slices of beef, sweet oranges, juicy tomatoes, red onions, and a nice kick from fresh chili. It’s refreshing with a nice balance of sweet, tangy, and mildly spicy — great for brunch or a hot day. Besides the food, the café also has a small curated retail corner with skincare and lifestyle products, adding a boutique feel to the place. It’s a lovely spot for brunch, a slow afternoon coffee, or even just to chill and enjoy the aesthetic environment. Overall, KLAY Café is definitely worth a visit if you’re in Chiang Mai — delicious food, beautiful ambience, and a very inviting atmosphere.
The best breakfast we had in Chiang Mai. I think the pictures speak for themselves but they have a great range of dishes in a beautiful setting. The service is slightly slow but it doesn’t take away from the food and the atmosphere. Great coffee and French toast!
I came to Klay Cafe for breakfast because I wanted something healthy, well-priced and delicious. I got the colorful tropical smoothie bowl which was perfectly balanced in taste and texture. Sometimes bowls can be too sweet, too runny, or sometimes - too cold. This one was just right. However, the tropical bowl wasn’t the highlight…it was the coffee. I had one of the best flat whites I’ve ever had. It was silky - like sipping a coffee liqueur without the alcohol or overwhelming sweetness. I’ll definitely be back to try some other things on the menu.
