Opera Café

Same place, different name - it's the cafe inside the Budapest Opera building & it's definitely open as I was there in January 2026! The service is terrible, the ladies behave as though they're fashion models who are there to be seen, definitely not there to take your food/drinks orders & they're quite rude to customers. When we eventually did order we asked the waitress questions & got attitude with answers. I asked if they had herbal tea, as none was listed on their menu, the waitress said "of course, which one?". I pointed out none were listed on the menu & asked for the flavours on offer, she got angry & walked off. When she returned she brought a tea bag in every herbal flavour & asked which one I wanted, with a huffy tone. There is no pot of tea, just a cup of hot water & a tea bag - not very luxurious for the very high price to be inside an Opera building. I expected better. We asked for hot chocolate for the rest of our group (also not on the menu), we were told "no we don't do that, if it's not on the menu we don't have it" - um, the herbal tea???!!! Customers are made to feel like you're a burden to be there - no wonder they had trouble with their business previously, I can see it going the same way if there's no improvement in both the menu & the service. Go to the Opera building, walk around as it's beautiful inside & out but avoid the cafe.

Very nice café for reasonable prices right in the Opera building. Nice architecture from inside and tasty coffee and ice tea. We didnt try anything else, but next time we give it a try.

Absolutely shocking. I wouldn’t recommend to absolutely anyone - even my worst enemy. The service was good at the beginning in terms of fastness and politeness. My husband and I ordered a pizza and a Caesar salad. The pizza was not fresh, dough was pre made and only got put in the oven with the toppings 25 minutes after the order was taken. The salad portion was way too small and extremely salty. We got served the food 30 minutes after we ordered. Because we didn’t enjoy the food and left half of the food on the plate, the waiter had stuck the card machine in my Husband’s face without showing us the bill; and when my husband asked to see the bill, he scoffed and told my husband to make sure not to drop it in the pizza sauce. Very very rude service. After we had paid, the waiter walked away without saying anything and left the plates on the table. Absolutely horrific.
