A lovely surprise behind the Castle, with an amazing exhibition upstairs. The food is Hungarian but with a twist, I loved it. Will definitely come again.

As a Hungarian, I can say that everyone has to try their goulash soup! The service is perfect, just like the quality and the quantity of the food! And the prices are much better than in a downtown restaurant — highly recommended!

The back drop for our lunch was a walk to the Buda Castle undergoing a stunning renovation. I included a picture of the castle in 1944 after the Budapest Siege and the transformation. Mercifully the Castle survived and we saw it today approaching its full splendour on the closing days of 2025. I was a bit concerned that finding a Good place to lunch so close to the Buda castle may have been too big an ask. Thankfully we had a wonderful lunch at the Royal Guards Cafe so named after the Hungarian Royal Guards. Back to lunch..To begin our waiters Lajos and Adrian were fabulous and both deserve a special mention. They made our lunch enjoyable from the beginning with professional service. The Royal Guard’s is as much a restaurant as cafe. The food was truely memorable. The theme is Hungarian Guards which were stationed at the Castle during from 18th - 20th centuries. The menu is designed to offer cuisine selected from the Carpathian’s. A nice twist on the location. We had the goulash soup, magnificently prepared with a wonderful relish to go with the bread. For main we had the grilled pike on potato mash. All was accompanied by a Hungarian Chardonnay. We finished with the a blue berry garnished sortie paired with liqueurs. This is a much recommended venue for a refreshing stop on your visit to the Castle.

Budapest Tip 🇭🇺 If you’re up around the Castle District, make sure to visit E’TLAP the food is absolutely amazing! 🍽️ It offers something a little different, and the dessert is truly mouthwatering. Sitting outside, you’ll enjoy beautiful views of the Castle surroundings, and the atmosphere is just perfect. Be sure to ask for Gabor — he’s very friendly and welcoming!

Folks, an amazing place to just kick back after a long walk around the buda castle, this is the place! Warm artichoke soup(vegan) - perfect for the fall weather, forest dessert ( blueberry mousse, muah!) and warm coffee and also the view. Thank you! Misi for serving so gracious. Loved the place
