The Breakfast Story

Geheimtipp! I love going to the Breakfast Story! The Croasties are unique in Berlin, the fresh juices are the best you can find around, and the coffee is just perfect too. Super nice service, cozy atmosphere. I used to live around, but now even travel through all of Berlin to have 1 or 2 quiet cafe hours here.

Nice interior and comfortable fit-out. The food was fine. Unfortunately the coffee didn’t meet basic preparation standards for a brunch spot at €4.50. The first flat white was a cappuccino served in a glass tumbler with a thick foam cap. When I asked for it to be remade, the second version had no microfoam at all — essentially hot milk with the espresso. At this price point I expect a simple drink like a flat white to meet the minimum: double shot with flat microfoam. The interaction unfortunately became awkward when I tried to clarify the issue. A bit more attention to barista training would go a long way.

One more brunch place around. While granola was not sugary, overall dishes are very usual and can be much better done at home considering taste and price. We all left hungry. Tea and coffee are expensive but again not great.

We had a quick and tasty breakfast, but in the end we waited 33 minutes for our order. When asked when we would get our food we were told, "I'll check in the kitchen. She came out of there and didn't tell us anything else. After 30 minutes I was starting to resent it. It's a shame we paid for the whole order in advance, otherwise we would have just left. As for the food, it's a banal scramble with mushrooms and a croissant. I don't understand what takes half an hour to cook. Plus, the savoury breakfast croissant is covered in sugar syrup for some reason. Unpalatable. Expensive. And for a long time. I don't recommend this place!

Tried the two different Croasts, with the suggestion that this is the only place in Berlin that offers these hip items so far that originate from London. They were both great! The fresh pressed juice was also tasty. A new comfy environment offering delightful breakfast. Can recommend. Will be back to try out the other items.
