Airy quarters with kitchenettes & free Wi-Fi in a stately 1800s hotel with chic dining & shops....
We had bedbugs in our room/bed. I could not sleep on the bed and had to sleep on the couch. At first I thought it was an allergy, my wife kept sleeping on the bed. Second day it was the same as one would have guessed. That is when we started noticing the bite marks. I had 10+ and my wife 30+. One of those marks was on my neck and it was actually a lump. In any case, we complained and at first they were very accommodating and changed us the room and admitted to having had problems before when we showed them the photos of the marks. We were content with the help and hoped for them to contain the problem, we were not going to write anything, that is. The next day after changing the room we were going out and the receptionist/manager stopped us to see how we were doing and told her that we were doing better, but we were still unsure if some of the marks were new and the bedbugs had followed us from one room to another. My wife showed her her hand with what could have been new bites and the response was: "You showed me that yesterday". That to us was quite dismissive after what we went through. Did she count the 5+ marks on her hand? After that we just wanted to finish the encounter and told her "you know what? yeah, we are much better thank you" and got on our way. She tried to control the narrative and tried to make us feel dumb or that we were lying after we still showed worry. Why ask how we were, then? Thankfully, there was a laundry room downstairs and we were able to wash our clothes and dry them to contain the problem and I don't think we brought them back home.
I honestly cannot understand the many positive reviews of this hotel. Right from the check-in, the atmosphere was unfriendly and unwelcoming. The staff member treated us in a rather rude and dismissive manner, which is not what you expect when arriving at a hotel in this category. The rooms are clearly outdated. I had booked a Deluxe room, but the doors were swollen at the bottom, there was an unpleasant smell in the room, and overall it did not feel well maintained. The hallway carpets are old and have a noticeable odor as well. What was especially disappointing: there was no room cleaning during my four-day stay. After asking about it, I was told to read a note that was supposedly in my room β which it was not. I was then informed that the information had apparently been displayed during check-in. In a hotel of this standard, such policies should be clearly communicated, not left for guests to discover on their own. As a result, I did not receive any housekeeping service for four days, which is absolutely unacceptable for this hotel category. The only positive aspect is the location, which is excellent, directly at Alexanderplatz. Unfortunately, everything else was disappointing. I will not be returning to this property.
We stayed here Monday - Friday, visiting Berlin to see the Christmas markets. Upon arrival at the hotel we were pleasantly surprised by the friendliness of the staff members, as well as how beautiful the building is inside. Our room was very spacious and had everything we could need, we also had a fantastic view of the TV tower. We liked that our room had a Juliet balcony, allowing us to let in fresh air from outside too. They have an essentials room in the basement which has facilities to wash and iron your clothing, but also there are kitchen utensils in there and other things you may need in your room such as extra tissues, shower gel etc. Although we did not need to use the essentials room, it was great knowing that it was there in case we did need anything! Overall we had a wonderful stay here, and we are already talking about returning here in the future.
Just come back from a 4 night stay here and I have to say it was spot on. Handy location and easy access to everything in Berlin. Considering it's a self hotel it was still fab. The room was beautiful and clean. Handy location and easy access to everything in Berlin. Although my only negative point about the room was that the shower and sink was in the area as the bed and everything else. This may not be suitable for couples. (Which is why I've only given the room 4 stars). But apart from that absolutely fantastic. And I will be back. π
The hotel room was extremely clean, had a view of the tower, and featured a nice design. It was also close to a grocery store and offered easy access to public transport. For someone who wants an authentic walk through the city, you can easily reach the main street from Alexanderplatz, seeing many sights along the way. Nearby is also the Museumsinsel, where you can enjoy cultural and historical experiences. A restaurant in the same building offers a nice selection of dishes and drinks. The staff were very polite, especially the waitresses Michaela and Theresa :) I received my food very quickly. There was nice music and a pleasant atmosphere. For breakfast, you can get coffee and smoothies at the lounge, as well as great sandwiches and cakes. Our room had a small kitchen with enough appliances for light cooking and an air conditioner, which was very helpful during the hot weather.
