Down-to-earth nook offering traditional regional dishes & an unpretentious atmosphere....
I'm worried it'll become too popular very soon. Had to wait for about 20 minutes for a table for two during dinner time and just behind us in the line was a group of other foreigners with their tourguide. The place was so busy the waiters kept forgetting items off off our order (a beer, bread). The atmosphere and the food itself fully made up for that though. If you prefer peace and quiet to eat, I'd advise you not to come here. Fairly priced. A couple items on the menu are frozen oven-ready meals, but it was clearly stated there (an asterisk printed next to the item name). Loved our meat, baked peppers and horiatiki. Tzatziki tastes like Lidl's, white wine was on the dry side but not bad.
Very popular courtyard restaurant in Athens. We arrived towards the end of the lunch rush and it was still packed. The very nice staff made a table just for us. We really enjoyed all the dishes ordered. Super authentic and very tasty. Do try the omelette as every table around us ordered it too. Avli is a gem in Psyri area. No wonder it’s so popular. Highly recommended if this is your first time in Athens.
The food is amazing, the staff are friendly and attentive, and the music creates a great atmosphere. Everything feels warm and welcoming. To fully appreciate these flavors, you really need a good palate or be from the Aegean or Mediterranean region. Highly recommended!
Avli is a lovely local restaurant with a welcoming feel. Even though it’s very traditional, the staff speak English and were happy to recommend dishes from their special menu, which made ordering easy and enjoyable. I had the sea bass with lemon sauce, and it was fantastic—fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. One of the pork dishes was a bit too fatty for my taste, though that really comes down to personal preference. The atmosphere is nice overall, but some people were smoking in the outdoor area, which was a little bothersome. Still, a good place to experience local food with friendly service.
My friend found this spot and was so excited to try it based upon Trip Advisor feedback. It definitely looks unassuming from the street. Luckily, we arrived before the afternoon rush and easily seated ourselves at one of the many tables available. After about it 15 minutes, the place was packed and by 3pm there was a line out the door into the street. Service was fine, very slow but exceptionally friendly. We tried a small sampler plate, meatballs, bread and a Greek salad with delicious fresh ingredients. The kitchen is small and they were packed so it took a very long time to get our entrees but the bread and salad was out quickly. My friend also had a small jug of honeyed wine that was also very good. They were so busy by the time we left they were running around like crazy and it was all Greeks and hardly any tourists. It’s a ways away from touristy areas and you’d never find it from the street if you didn’t know as it’s through an indescript door/alleyway and opens to a gorgeous seating area. They do have a bathroom for guests.
