Weekday mornings are the quietest
My friend and I entered this coffee shop expecting a calm, respectful environment. We had barely sat down with our drinks when the person working there began aggressively monitoring us, listening in on our private conversation, which we were having quietly and respectfully, without addressing or disturbing anyone around us. Without explanation, he came to our table and demanded that we leave. When we asked—very calmly—what we had supposedly said or done wrong, he was incapable of giving a single concrete answer. He repeatedly claimed he “understood French” and insisted that “we knew what we said,” yet could not quote a single sentence or explain what was offensive. This happened publicly, in front of other customers, and was deeply humiliating. What made the situation even more disturbing was the clearly racialised tone of his remarks. Statements like “I know people like you” leave little room for interpretation when directed at two women of colour who had done absolutely nothing wrong. This was not about noise, behaviour, or respect — it was about who we are. The attitude was hostile, irrational, and openly discriminatory. Being accused, gaslit, and expelled without reason is unacceptable in any establishment. No one should feel unsafe, targeted, or racially profiled while simply sitting and talking in a café. I will never return to this place and strongly warn others especially people of colour to be cautious. This was not a misunderstanding; it was a clear abuse of power mixed with racism and intimidation.
In this small coffee shop, which at first glance seems very cosy, with an atmosphere that invites calm and peace, you will find a little gremlin who lacks manners and serves you without knowing how to advise you on the products he sells. What's more, he has a supernatural ability to listen to the whispered conversations of his customers. He then attacks them by asking them to leave on the grounds that they are trolls, that they are disrespectful and that he understands French. In the room where I was with my friend, there was a man on his phone with headphones and a couple at another table. Given the location, my friend and I had barely sat down with our drinks when we started chatting about this and that, without ever disrespecting anyone, talking about our personal lives, all in whispers given the atmosphere of the place. The guy came over and told us to leave, saying he understood French, even though he couldn't string a single sentence together in French. We asked him what we could have said that was offensive because we didn't understand his hysteria or the situation. His only defence was to repeat ‘You know what you said’, so I asked him to tell me what we had said. All this in front of the other customers. Not only was it racist aggression and gaslighting, but by saying ‘I know people like you,’ who was he referring to? We were two women of colour. He was the archetype of the crazy, racist, hysterical bus passenger, and there is no way I will ever set foot in that place again, where I only spent 20 minutes.
A very bizarre experience! You will either get this place or you won't. This IS NOT your traditional touristy coffeeshop experience. This is more like being welcomed into someone's home, where if you wanted to buy some flower you could, but no pressure. It's a very quiet location in a very nice area. You can go here to breathe for a moment and cuddle with some cats. Before carrying on with your day.
We stopped at this place after visiting the Albert Cuyp Market and I will definitely recommend this place if you’re close to !!! The welcome was very warm and the atmosphere is really pleasant, because there are few seats which leaves room for calm. The prices are more than correct for the quality of the weed. There are also some board games that you can play if you feel like it. And let’s not forget Tommy who will be happy to welcome you and accompany you throughout your relaxing time.
A unique place which is rare to find in a changing world like Amsterdam. Helga ,the owner always busy, doing her thing. Tommy a street cat who found its home in her coisy place. Anybody can chill for a while with or without a joint, a coffee or ginger tea. Places like this we need to cherish in this world. Here people can meet and talk and laugh with each other.Having a special time
