Arie Keppler, the café’s namesake, would approve. This isn’t a generic hipster coffee house, but a place that feels like an old village pub. They roast their own coffee—and they do it very well. My favourite is the filter/batch brew: so clean, full of all kinds of fruit notes, yet still just a really good cup of coffee. I have their soup for lunch almost every week. Nearly always different. Nearly always vegan. Always a big, warm hug. Try the omelette. A proper French one, served on their own crispy bread with tangy mayonnaise, as mayo should be. Simple, but not basic. I love reading the newspaper here. Secretly listening to the conversation at the next table. Or just tuning into their carefully curated music. Home. As always, everyone gets five stars.
The worst place where I had breakfast in Amsterdam. Rude service and absolutely no understanding of what hospitality means. There is no option to order extra eggs or add ham to an egg breakfast, or even add eggs to a sandwich - only as a separate item, which makes it impossible to balance the meal. Their argument was: ‘we don’t do personalized orders.’ The question is: is simply adding an extra ingredient really personalization, or is it an upsell and an opportunity for the business to earn more? What’s most surprising is that, knowing my preferences and what I wanted, the waitress didn’t even try to suggest any alternatives. Instead, she continued to behave aggressively. Oh, and if you want to get coffee to go — that’s impossible as well. They don’t have takeaway cups
I found this spot the same day I was leaving Amsterdam. I wish I has discovered it sooner! I had a toast with cheese and eggs, a cinnamon roll and two coffee cups. Everything was amazing. I could notice this place was a locals’ favorite, no wonder why. Perfect place if you’re looking for quality coffee and food.
We stopped on a Sunday afternoon and ate in the outside area. The service was excellent as was the soup of the day (lentil) and a vegan pesto sandwich of the day. So delicious I couldn't stop talking about it.
I found this cafe walking from my hotel on the way to the ferry. It was a busy morning but seating was still available. I was served quickly and the staff was very friendly. I ordered a cappuccino and the omelette on toast. They were both delicious. The tunes playing were perfect to set a good cafe vibe. It was a pleasant surprise to find this cafe and I look forward to returning.
