An absolutely iconic restaurant in Athens. From the moment you walk in, you immediately feel that this place carries history and character. The warm wooden interior, the beautiful drawings and photographs on the walls, and the classic wall sconces create a timeless atmosphere that feels elegant yet very authentic. What I loved most is that the dining room was almost entirely filled with locals, which says a lot about the quality of the place. The service was impeccable; the gentleman who served the table was extremely helpful, friendly, and made excellent recommendations throughout the evening. The cabbage, carrot and parsley salad was very refreshing, simple and delicious. The charcoal grilled beets were excellent and had a wonderful flavor from the charcoal grill. The zucchini fritters are a classic for me and they were fried very lightly, with the texture inside exactly how I like it, neither dry nor overly moist, just perfectly done. Their bread was also really delicious and incredibly fresh; I didn’t ask whether they make it themselves, but it certainly tasted like it could be homemade. The beef sausage was nicely spiced and very flavorful. The cabbage rolls had a delicious aroma and sauce, although the cabbage itself was a little tough to chew, which slightly affected the enjoyment of that dish. The slow cooked lamb with Sfakian hilopites was definitely the star of my meal; the lamb was perfectly cooked, beautifully flavored, and truly outstanding. I finished with baklava served with a glass of Vinsanto, which paired beautifully and made for a perfect ending to a wonderful dinner. I was lucky to find a an availability at last minute but I definitely recommend you to book in advance. A true gem in Athens and a place I would happily return to.
I recently visited Το Καφενείο and was truly impressed. The restaurant has been beautifully refreshed while keeping the soul of a traditional Greek kitchen. The cooked dishes (“mageirefta”) were outstanding ,comforting, flavorful, and clearly made with deep respect for authentic Greek recipes and the grilled items “tis oras” were equally excellent, perfectly prepared and full of flavor. It’s rare to find a place that modernizes the space without losing the essence of the cuisine, but they’ve achieved exactly that. A wonderful choice in Athens for anyone who appreciates genuine Greek food done right.
We have gone with friends to dinner simply! It was real simple like a French bistros in the look. And of course the Greek delicacies of lahanodolmades and biftekakia. It ended with a supreme yogurt à la crème. Of course we will revisit it again soon
Had a great Saturday lunch in this revamped old-school restaurant in #kolonaki New owners kept all the right things in the classic recipes and deco, while adding elements that just upgraded the whole experience. Now for me it’s probably the best value for money food spot in this area. Great service despite the crowd.
Salvador was a fantastic server. He was very knowledgable and encouraged us to try new things. He also shared stories about the origins of some of the dishes. I am still dreaming about the beef and orzo. So delicious and perfect Greek comfort food.
